Perdue Foods has announced that the company is recalling more than 68,000 pounds of Perdue Simply Smart Organics gluten free chicken breast nuggets which may contain pieces of wood. The company has stated the recall is isolated to the one brand and is only sold in 22-oz plastic bag packages.
The items were produced in October 2018 and have a best if used by date of 10/25/2019. The UPC Bar Code is 72745-80656, and each bears establishment number P-33944 inside the USDA mark of inspection. Recalled products were shipped to distributors nationwide.
According to the company, there have been no reports of injury associated with the affected product.
“After a thorough investigation, we strongly believe this to be an isolated incident, as only a minimal amount of these packages has the potential to contain pieces of wood. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to recall all packages of PERDUE® SIMPLY SMART® Organics Gluten Free Chicken Breast Nuggets produced during the same product run,” said Jeff Shaw, Perdue's Vice President for Quality Assurance.
According to the USDA, the problem was discovered when Perdue received three consumer complaints that wood had been found in the product.
If you have any of the recalled product, do not eat it. You can contact Perdue Foods at 877-727-3447 for a full refund of your purchase, or if you have any concerns or questions.
