Fatal Accident Update

On Saturday, January 5, 2019 there was a fatal accident on Highway 89, just north of Cameron at milepost 471.3 which resulted in the death of six people.
A Kia passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on US 89 when it crossed over the striped median and collided head-on with a Hyundai passenger vehicle within the southbound traffic lanes.
According to Arizona DPS Media Relations Specialist Graves, the Kia was reported as moving recklessly at a high speed.
The Kia was driven by Javas J. Cody, 18 and with him was a passenger, Aaron Chee, 39, both of Kayenta.
The Hyundai was driven by Juliana Pena Delgado, 22, and with her were three passengers, all from Columbia: Carlos Mario Pena Jaramillo, 60; Manuela Pena Delgado, 22; and Soriada Delgado Sierra, 58.
All six died at the scene.
Highway 89 was closed until 10:36 pm, and the investigation is still ongoing.
