CenturyLink Nationwide Outage

For those of you who have CenturyLink, you may have noticed that you have had issues with your internet connection today. Well, the reason is due to a nationwide outage since approximately 3:50 EST this morning according to technology outage tracking website DownDetector.

While this is a nationwide outage, some users within the Page area have not seen interruptions in service, including Page Banner Hospital.

Initially, CenturyLink was responding to individual accounts with generic statements rather than a public statement. Eventually, and according to several CenturyLink customers, around 10 hours after the network went down, CentruyLink tweeted this morning that their network is experiencing a disruption affecting customer services and that they are working to restore service as soon as possible.

In the company's most recent tweet, posted approximately three hours ago, stated that the company is still experiencing a disruption that is affecting customer services and that their technical teams will be working around the clock to restore service.

Many CenturyLink users took to Twitter to respond to CenturyLink’s outage announcement.

One Twitter user wrote: ""Ten hours later" Seriously, just imagine how many fewer calls would have been made if @CenturyLink would have released a statement at the start of all this nonsense”

Another user commented on the company’s description of the outage being customer service related “Yeah, the issue isn’t customer service. Your actual service is down. There are hospitals that can’t connect to their server because something is wrong and you guys are super silent about it!”

Some users had fun with the announcement. One user Tweeted “You expect me to interact with my kids not just let them watch YouTube all day? For shame @CenturyLink ! For shame!” and another user Tweeted “did you try unplugging and plugging back in the router?” mocking the steps internet service providers walk customers through when they experience internet problems.

The length and span of this outage has caught the eye of Federal Communications Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel. Rosenworcel Tweeted earlier today “This is a nationwide outage. The @FCC investigation needs to start now.”

Several emergency 9-1-1 phone services around the country have also been experiencing outages.

As of the writing of this piece, the outage was still ongoing.
