You never know who you may help save by donating a bit of blood.
This month, there are two community blood drive events, and Vitalant is asking that the students of Page High School, employees of Banner Hospital, and the rest of the Page community take the time to donate. About an hour of your time and your donation is a lifelong gift for a hospital patient in need of a lifesaving blood transfusion. Both events are open to the public.
On Saturday, October 27th Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services) Centers sent 200 additional blood products to our sister center in Pittsburgh to help victims of the shooting at the Pittsburgh Synagogue.
The blood already collected and at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center helped to treat the shooting victims.
Vitalant is the sole blood provider for UPMC. Red blood cells have a shelf life of 42 days.
That's why it's vital for blood donors to give regularly so there's enough ready and waiting for patients when they need it.This was a sad reminder that it is the blood on the shelves that saves lives.
