Keep Yourself Safe From Address Change Scam

'Tis the season for more scams. The U.S. Postal Service is warning people this holiday season to be aware of an address change scam that can be of a concern to all who receive mail.

All a person needs is your name and address to change where your mail is sent. But there are ways you can prevent yourself from being a victim.

  • Ensure criminals don’t have easy access to your personal information such as picking up your mail or checking your mailbox on a daily basis.

  • Another way to protect your information is to ensure that you do not leave mail face-up in your vehicle. Either keep it face-down or hide it.

If you do receive a change of address verification form it could look like a piece of junk mail, so double check it. If it is a verification form, or any other type of mail from what appears to be the postal service, check with your local post office to ensure you are safe.
