Proposed Zoning Ordinance Moves To Second Reading

Tonight the City Council, through a unanimous vote, passed the proposed zoning ordinance to its second reading.

During the public hearing, four people stood up and spoke about the proposed zoning ordinance. Two people spoke in favor of the Council moving the ordinance forward; one person speaking on behalf of several companies within Page that have had to halt their expansions and other changes they have been wanting to make due to the limitations of the current code. Two people stood up and asked the Council to not pass the proposed zoning code and to table the item until the next Council takes over.

What does this mean?

The first thing that will take place with this code, is that it will be brought to the next City Council, which will be sworn in during a public ceremony on November 26, for a second reading. This will be done during their first public meeting on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

If the ordinance passes after its second reading, it will take another 30 days before it goes into effect.

If it fails to pass at it's second reading, what happens to it is dependent upon the next Council's instructions.
