At the opening of tonight’s City Council meeting, Council Member Doug ‘Dugan’ Warner, the entire City Council, City Manager Michael Calaya, City Attorney Josh Smith and other city officials honored Mayor Bill Diak for his nine years of service to the Council. Council Member Warner presented Mayor Diak with a plaque as a symbol of their appreciation for his service to the City of Page.
Vice Mayor John Kocjan told Mayor Diak when he was receiving his plaque, “In consideration for all you’ve done for the City of Page. It’s been a real honor working with you.”
Upon receiving his plaque, Mayor Diak gave a tear-jerking and heartfelt thank you. Mayor Diak stated:
“You never prepare for a day like this. For me it has been a journey I have honored and appreciated, representing my city to the best of my ability. I hope that you that have been around a while, and you maybe just here in the last year, or even the last day or two, can find in your hearts the love that I have for this community. And that you will continue to try to make it the best you possibly can”.
“In my nearly 40 years of being in this community I think that it was a real love for me even before I came here. I’ve spent 38 years being a part of this community and trying to make it a better place. The last 10 of that have been here in this building and it has been the best part of my whole life here so far, and I’ve got many more years left”.
“I thank you all out there, I certainly thank this council for helping me make Page a better place and staff. Without staff we couldn’t have done it at all. We’re the visionaries standing here but the work is done by the real people behind the scenes and all our employees. And with that I’d like to give a round of applause for our employees”.
Thank you Mayor Bill Diak for your years of service to this community. Your impression and vision for this city will not be forgotten.
