He had graduated the State Trooper Academy just two months prior on May 4, 2018 and was completing his last night of Field Training when he and his Field Trainer responded to a call to assist another trooper. At the scene, there was an altercation between the suspect and the troopers, during which the suspect was able to obtain one of the trooper’s service weapons and fired two shots at the troopers.
One trooper suffered a non-fatal wound to the shoulder, and Trooper Edenhofer was shot in the shoulder, however, according to reports, the bullet ricocheted in his body, causing fatal wounds.
Prior to joining AZDPS in 2017, Trooper Edenhofer served in the U.S. Navy. Tyler Edenhofer is the youngest trooper from DPS to be killed in the line of duty, he was 24.
