Harley-Davidson Recalls Nearly 178,000 Motorcycles

Harley-Davidson Motorcycle company is recalling nearly 178,000 motorcycles throughout the United States due to a clutch problem causing the bikes to get stuck in gear.

According to documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that clutches were internally leaking fluids, making it so the clutch cannot disengage the bikes from the gears. According to the NHTSA, the issue can cause riders to lose control of their bike, which can lead to an accident.

This is Harley’s fifth clutch-related recall for Harley Davidson within the last five years. This recall comes just one week after the company stated it was recalling over 230,000 motorcycles worldwide due to a clutch problem; the company’s fourth clutch related recall, according to an article by USA Today.

The company says that it has reports of five crashes with no injuries related to this problem.

In total 43 models from 2017 and 2018 are on the list including various models of Road Kings, Street Glides, Fat Boys, and Ultra Limited. You can see the list of the recalled models here.

The recall is expected to begin Monday, November 5. Dealers will install a new secondary clutch actuator piston assembly at no cost to owners. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0173.
