A Reminder On This Memorial Day

The title of the piece was “The Fallen 9000” and was to commemorate International Peace Day.

While the piece came to fruition five years ago and is long gone, taken away by nature’s eraser, the sea, Sand In Your Eye out of Hebden Bridge England, honored the fallen in a more than memorable way. On this Memorial Day, it seems more than appropriate to share Sand In Your Eye’s creation once more.

Using the sand on the beach at Arromanches, France as their medium, Sand In Your Eye, along with hundreds of volunteers gave the world a brief yet powerful and sobering reminder of the cost the world’s military personnel are willing to pay.

The designers, Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss, took over 50 stencils and rakes to the beach at Arromanches, France, where they and volunteers raked out 9,000 silhouettes representing those that fell on D-Day, June 6, 1944. It took about five hours to complete the project.

On this day, please remember those who sacrificed their lives for your freedoms.
