Foster Care Education Program Coming to Page

Anyone who has had involvement with the foster care system knows that it’s not easy from any angle. Luckily, there are many resources available for those who want to learn more. One of those resources is coming to Page. “Changing How We Think About (and Respond to) Trauma, Connections and Families with Kevin Campbell” is a foster care education program presented by the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth. This program will be available in Page October 18th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Page High School Auditorium. The cost is $5 for county residents and $55 for non-county residents, and includes lunch. According to the Center for Family Finding and Youth Connectedness, (http://www.familyfinding.org), founder Kevin Campbell is an internationally known youth permanency expert and developer of the Family Finding model, a set of strategies used throughout the United States and Canada to establish lifelong supports for youth in foster care. Campbell also played a major role in the passing of the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act of 2008, one of the most significant pieces of child welfare legislation in the last 15 years. His work has been featured in dozens of national publications, including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Time magazine, and on CBS’ “60 Minutes”. He was featured in the award-winning documentary “From Place to Place,” which focused on the realities of aging out of the foster care system.

This program promises to be an enriching experience for anyone who works with fostered youth, including those who work in Juvenile Court, DCS, those who are foster / kinship parents, service agencies, and even members of the community. It will highlight child abuse prevention and family strengthening skills.
