This afternoon at approximately 4:00 pm MDT (3:00 MST) on Highway 89 at Mile Marker 4, there was a single car roll-over accident causing long traffic delays. Utah Highway Patrol, Kane County Sheriff, Glen Canyon Park Services, Coconino County Sheriff, and Greenhaven Fire Department, Big Water Fire Department, Page Fire Department, and Page Police Department provided emergency services on scene.

Witnesses claim the driver of the vehicle was passing just before the curve at Mile Marker 4 and when the driver returned to their lane, they lost control of the vehicle, hit the shoulder and began rolling, stopping at the barbed-wire fencing. The vehicle’s roof appeared to have been cut off for emergency services to reach them. The driver, presumed to be an Arizona resident, was taken to an area hospital by helicopter due to the severity of their injuries. Currently there is no update on the driver’s condition.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Utah Highway Patrol is heading the investigation and looking into any possibility of impairment. Speed is suspected to be a factor based on eye-witness accounts.
