On July 12, the Veterans of Foreign Wars presented Officer David Van Nostrand for their Law Enforcement Award and Recognition. Darrel Moore, former State Commander of the V.F.W. is seen above with officer Van Nostrand. Officer Van Nostrand was nominated by Chief of Police, F. Balkcom, "for his unselfish commitment to working with our youth and being a positive role model to members of the Page Police Explorer Post." According to Chief Balkcom, Officer Van Nostrand was "instrumental in creating our Police Explorer Post and spends many hours of his own time working with youth..."

The awards ceremony started off with recognition for a local business that has been a strong supporter and huge help to the Page Police Department. Transport Towing has provided unwavering dedication to helping not only the Page Police Department, but providing services for locals, and visitors alike, above and beyond the call of duty for years. Police Chief Frank Balkcom recognized Transport Towing's commitment to going the extra mile in supporting our community, and also presented him with a challenge coin from the Page Police Department.

Chief Balkcom also recognized the dedication of the V.F.W. by presenting Darrell Moore with a challenge coin. Speaking to the chief after the ceremonies, LPNN was surprised to learn of the new dedication to public service and awareness that the Chief has pledged to the city. Chief Balkcom was very forthright and passionate about the vision and direction of the Page Police Department. Being a former Public Information Officer with a bilingual background, and working with a local radio station, Chief Balkcom is dedicated to providing a more transparent, and community involved Page Police Department, for the betterment of the community as a whole. Helping to provide a safer and more interactive experience for everyone living, or visiting here.

Page's own Mike Rielley, from the local radio station 93.3 Jack FM, a morning show host, and news writer for LakePowellLife.com was also awarded a challenge coin by Chief Balkcom for his dedication and support of the Page Police Department.
LPNN would like to thank Officer Van Nostrand for his amazing service and for bringing so many youth into the Page Police Explorer Post, and helping to create a new generation of citizens with a fresh sense of what it is to be a Police Officer. We would also like to thank Transport Towing for being such a strong supporter of the community, and special thanks to Police Chief Balkcom for his pledge to make a more community oriented Page Police Department.
